“Le Trioulou” – which means “clover” in the language of Oc – did not always have this XIXth century facade, right exit of a volume of the Comtesse de Ségur. As the Marquis de Valady writes in his book The Castles of the Ancient Rouergue, “Two very beautiful pieces, (it speaks of the dining room and the large gray drawing-room), remarkable for the elevation of their vaults and the The bold elegance of the ribs of one of them say enough of the antiquity of the building”.
As early as the 14th century, mention was made of a “Trioulou den”, belonging to Pierre de Trioulou and then to his son Hugues de Trioulou. At the beginning of the seventeenth century, Le Trioulou passed into the hands of a family of Villefranche-de-Rouergue, the Hérail, who in 1629 welcomed the nuns of Sainte-Ursule, an epidemic of plague raging in the city.
The castle of Trioulou is then forwarded by the women to the Verminac. Then, in 1705, to the Colonges, by the marriage of Angelique de Verminac with her neighbor Alexis-Dauphin de Colonges, lord of Cenac.
At the beginning of the 19th century, Le Trioulou was sold to Armand Constans, who later sold it to the Maruéjouls in 1877. Emile Maruéjouls, deputy of the Aveyron and Minister of Transport under the Third Republic, and his son Pierre Maruéjouls, attaché of the Embassy and then Minister Plenipotentiary, who “so happily transformed and embellished this ancient dwelling”. The great modifications of the Trioulou were made under the aegis Paul Gout (1852-1923) pupil of Viollet-le-Duc, architect native of Villefranche-de-Rouergue.
It is today the great family of Marie-Laurence and Frédéric Beutter with their seven children that gives life to this castle.
